Corruption

Corruption is everywhere. One of my favourite sports to watch is figure skating. Soon I'll get to watch a bunch, because the Olympics are coming...next month!!

But we shouldn't forget what happened at the last Olympics. It was a huge scandal, but 4 years later, we've moved on. Of course, we can't dwell on it forever, that would be useless. And I'm quite sure that once the Olympics get underway, the story will re-emerge.

Don't know what I'm talking about? Well, do you remember these guys:

This is David Pelletier and Jamie Sale accepting their silver medals in Pairs Skating at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.

Oh, by the way, the people who won gold...yeah, the Russians. The guy FELL during their performance and they SOOOO weren't in unison.

The Canadians...perfect.

Who gets the gold???

Mr. Fall Down

Next, out comes the corruption in figure skating.

I just watched a documentary on this, which is why I'm blogging about it right now.

Basically, we've all always known that figure skating has some shady back room deals going on. But when a team obviously loses the gold yet still gets it...sorry but we're not gonna take that.

Oh, and it helped that the Olympics were in the US...the US media is a bunch of vultures!! But in this case...good vultures!

A huge fuss was made and here's what happened:Yup. We got awarded some pity medals.

Did they strip the gold medals from the Russians??? NO!!! What!?

Seriously, unless you're going to strip their medals and give them the silver, they're just pity medals.

So yeah, 2 sets of gold medals handed out in that event and everything swept under the rug.

Oh, and all the whistleblowers who made sure that justice was served??? They've been banned from all international skating organizations.

The corrupt ones?? They're still there, ruining the sport.

I hope it gets fixed.

But there's a happy ending to this story:

Jamie and David got married! Yay!!
