World Refugee Day

Today is World Refugee Day. I don't know much about it, I'm assuming it's just another one of those "awareness" days. But whatever the reason, it's here to remind us of some realities in the world.

I'm just going to talk about one particular problem in one particular third world country, because I learned about it in my 3rd World Politics course.

Did you know that tens of thousands of children walk hundreds of miles each night just to have a safe place to sleep? In Northern Uganda, the Lord's Resistance Army kidnaps children at night and forces them to become members of this rebel movement, which is active also in the Congo and the Congo. To ensure the safety of their children, their parents send them on a Midnight Walk to Gulu. Gulu is a city where the children can sleep safely on the floors of schools and churches.

So tonight, be thankful that you have a safe place to sleep and that your children have a safe place to sleep.

All it takes to help children in third world countries is pennies...literally pennies. So, the next time you see a little box in front of a till at a store, put your change in there. It may seem like that money does not help, but I assure you, it does.

"Motivation is everything. You can do the work of two people, but you can't be two people. Instead, you have to inspire the next guy down the line and get him to inspire his people. "
