This Class Sucks
Yes, I am posting from class. I'm in a lab class for Comm 467. To introduce you to Comm 467, it's called Modern Portfolio Theory and Management. It's a super insanely boring class. Right now she's teaching us how to use excel. But she's typed us out a sheet that she's going through. Well, I just went ahead and typed in what the sheet says. So, now I'm bored.
My prof is interesting. She would be perfect playing a school teacher in some show like Road to Avonlea. She wears these glasses that make her look real bitchy and she's even using an old school pointer today!! No one uses pointers anymore, they use laser pointers. And she wears brown...how boring.
Anyway, class sucks. After this class I get to go to Risk Management. That class...well, I like the information, but the prof is super boring and I have trouble staying awake. But I have an assignment due tomorrow for another class, so I think I'll work on it during that class. Now, that's time management!!!!
So, I was in Political Studies this morning. That class is Politics of the 3rd World. So, my prof was going through periods of development and today he was doing the 5th and final period. And before he said what it was, I said the guy beside me "It's the movement of the musicians! Bob Geldof and Bono!!" Well, the 5 stage of development was Poverty Reduction and he mentioned the G8 summit. So I guess I could say I was right!! Damn I'm smart.
Anyway, my prof is starting to catch up on this sheet, so I'd better start listening for a while.

Work = Stress (kinda)
Well, Saturday at work was absolutely insane! Let's start with some stuff leading up to Saturday.
Friday I went to a Career Expo (which I will eventually write a post about) and on my way home I stopped by work to pick up my paycheque. While I'm there I find out that Preeti cancelled on her shift, so we'd be short a person for supper. Also, Kathy surprises me with "You're training someone tomorrow." So I'm just like "well great." So, Friday night is crazy and I have work until 12:45 am.
So, now onto Saturday. I work at 9am. Remember, I worked until 12:45am, just a few hours earlier. So, I'm extremely tired. Well, I look at the prep list and it's basically "2 of Everything." Just written out into the two of everything. So my lunch covers get to work, both of whom are still quite slow at work. They both decide that they have to eat before lunch. Now, here's how fast food works, you don't eat when there's work to be done, such as a gigantic prep list. So, suffice it to say, not much prep got done before lunch. And at lunch we got SLAMMED. Slammed as in, there was a volleyball tournament, hockey tournament, track meet, and football game all going on that day. Not to mention that it was just a really nice day out. So, we get slammed and what's the first thing that happens??? We run out of loonies. So I have to phone my boss because there is no way I'm dealing for 2 more days with no loonies before they go for change on Monday. Fortunately, Trevor was in town and he was able to come and bail us out. We run out of cold cuts in the middle of the rush, so I am in the back prepping cold cuts which are immediately being used as well as running out front to work the till. Then we run out of bread. I make bread the entire day and we never had a full bread cabinet.
My boss is insane with the whole "clean store" thing. Well, if she had seen that store, she would have fired me. It was brutal. Oh, and then remember that whole "you're training someone thing." Yeah, new girl comes in. I barely have time to think. So, I feel really bad, but I stick her on prep and basically just leave her there. I just don't have time to train her.
So anyway, I end up staying an extra hour to help them catch up. So, I worked an 8 hour close shift, got about 6 hours of sleep and turned around a worked a 9 hour open shift. I came home and just like stared at a wall for an hour. It sucked.
Upside, the new girl is great!! Her name is Joelle and it seems she is going out with Daniel Gerger, who is an old classmate/friend/acquaintance of my little brother. And she thinks she knows Andrew, because she met Daniel through youth group/leadership camp, etc. So, that's very cool. And she's really nice and knows how to play crib. So me her and Damjan played a 3-way game and I finally kicked Damjan's ass. Hahahahaha.
Anyway, I just needed to rant, so that's really what this post was about.

A New Day, A New Blog
Life is hectic.
As a university student, I not only have to take classes, but I have to pay for them. This means I juggle classes and a part-time job 12 months a year. Let me try and outline the amount of time my week takes up.
It is estimated that for every hour spent in class in university, 3 hours of homework needs to be done. So, I spend 15 hours in class each week. Therefore, I should be doing, at minimum, 45 hours of homework. Now, to me, that's a full-time job right there! Then, I also work 30 hours each week. So, of the 168 hours in each week, so far, I have used up 75 of those hours. Let's say that I sleep 8 hours each night, that makes 56 hours. So, of the 168, I have now used up 131 hours. I would estimate that I spend at least 7 hours a week walking places. So now I've used up 138. I also have SADD meetings each week, and often have to work at a SADD activity, that takes up about 3 hours a week. So now I've used up 141 hours. So, that leaves me with just under 4 hours a day of free time. And that's not completely accurate. I didn't add in the time it takes me to shower or anything. Basically, my life is hectic.
There are day when I have more than 4 hours free and days when I have no free time. One of the most difficult things about being a student that contributes to the hecticity is the wacky schedule. I don't have any 2 days alike in terms of schedule. Some days I'm up at 8am, other days not until 11am. I eat at completely irregular times. It's crazy!!! But somehow I get through it.
How?
Well, it's a mix of a few things. First of all, my job could be worse. The upside to my job is that I do like most of my co-workers and so I enjoy coming to work most days. Second of all, I really want my degree. So I'm quite willing to sacrifice to get it. Thirdly, I'm not very obsessed with marks. I'm ok with getting low 70s or even in the 60s if it means that I can study less and have more time for things like this blog and to go out with my friends. Fourth, I don't want to be in debt. By working, I'm using up a lot of my spare time, but when I graduate, I will owe no one anything. I'm quite looking forward to that.
Basically, I have lots of incentive to live this hectic life. This blog will somewhat follow that hectic life and give you a glimpse into what I'm learning as I go along.
And yes, Hecticity is a made-up word. Imagine that, I have an imagination!!
